Most of us could go for a walk, but do we?

Discover why joining a community group can help you walk more.


1. Motivation and Accountability

Walking with others can create a sense of accountability. Knowing that friends or community members are waiting can motivate individuals to walk more regularly.


2. Social Interaction

Walking in a community allows for social engagement, making the activity more enjoyable. People are more likely to walk when they can converse and connect with others.


3. Safety in Numbers

Walking in a group can enhance feelings of safety, especially in rural and more isolated areas. This sense of security encourages more people to participate in walking activities.


4. Knowing where to go

Having a walk leader means you don't need to know the route you can just enjoy the walk and not worry about getting back to the starting point! Lowering this anxiety means more enjoyable walking and increases the likelihood of setting out on a walk.


5. Health Benefits Awareness

Our Nordic walkers often comment about the many health benefits both physical and mental they have experienced after joining our community group and starting to walk more with others. Communities can promote the health benefits of walking, leading to increased awareness and participation among residents.


6. Access to Resources

Our community group can provide the necessary resources - such as the special Nordic walking poles, a qualified instructor, qualified walk leaders trained in basic first aid and supportive and friendly members, making it easier for individuals to feel they can be supported in getting out there to walk.


7. Enhanced Enjoyment of Nature

Walking in community settings often means access to parks and natural areas, making the experience more enjoyable and encouraging longer walks.


8. Shared Goals

Communities can organise or signpost walking events or challenges that promote health and fitness. Shared goals can inspire individuals to walk more frequently.
